„Map of cool places in Munich“ in the GeoPortal

Temperatures are currently climbing to new record levels once again. This is particularly noticeable in the city and poses a considerable health risk, especially for vulnerable groups. The Department of Health has therefore initiated numerous activities to protect the citizens from the heat and published  them on the "Heat and Health“ website. The website “Summer heat: tips for cooling off in Munich” also provides a good overview with various information for hot days (the websites are unfortunately in German).

In addition to numerous tips and behavioral guidelines for dealing with high temperatures, technical solutions are also an important component of heat protection as part of public health care.

This is where the Digital Twin Munich comes into use, as there can be considerable differences on hot days, even in a small area. The “Map of cool places in Munich” in the GeoPortal Munich shows cool outdoor areas such as municipal parks and green spaces as well as public bathing areas. Publicly accessible buildings and structures that can offer protection from the heat, such as churches and subway stations, are also listed. The public drinking fountains are also included providing  information about free access to drinking water in public spaces, because in addition to physical protection from the heat, sufficient hydration is also essential on hot summer days like the ones we are currently experiencing!
