The Digital Twin Munich at the Festival of the Future 2024
Three days of innovative ideas and technologies for a better future!
„Welcome to Future Island“
This was this year's motto at the "Festival of the Future" organized by 1E9 and the Deutsches Museum which took place at Munich's Museum Island end of June.
The program included numerous talks, workshops, and an interactive exhibition about the latest developments in technology and science. More than 150 inspiring personalities from start-ups and industry, science and venture capital, art, politics, and society came together at the festival. From Nobel Prize winners to founders - the event provided a platform for individuals seeking to influence the future The first two days were held as a conference targeting an audience of specialists. Followed by two "Family Days", which welcomed the whole family to listen, talk and participate in a wide variety of formats, since "the future is everyone's business".
The GeodataService Munich also made its debut at this year's event, showcasing its Digital Twin concept of the city with a dedicated stand.
Experience use cases of the Digital Twin Munich on site
Those who visited the GeodataService stand in the Experience Area were able to learn about the various applications of Munich's Digital Twin. Some of the use cases could be tested and experienced directly on site. Visitors had the opportunity to examine the realistic 3D city model, experience an urban climate simulation of a climate-resilient historic city center with VR glasses and talk to the Digital Twin and find out how the "Urban. AI. Twin." combines artificial intelligence and geodata. All this was all possible from Thursday till Saturday and gave a preview of the future development of urban digital twins.
During a guided tour through the Experience Area with the motto "Zooming Out: From City Streets to Galactic Skies", visitors were able to experience the Digital Twin, along with various other exhibition stands. This offering was also attended by the Bavarian Minister of State Ministry for Digital Affairs, Dr. Fabian Mehring. The topics were also well-received during the “Family Day”, with the VR goggles proving particularly popular with the youngest visitors.
Keynote by Markus Mohl, GeodataService
Two exciting keynotes from the City of Munich were on the agenda which took place in the sunny Posthof on Saturday afternoon. In the first presentation Lena Barth and Fabian Kors from the AI Competence Center gave insights on how artificial intelligence is used in administration. Afterwards, Markus Mohl, Head of the Digital Twin Competence Center, proceeded with his keynote about „Digital Twin Munich: The digital image for the path to the climate-neutral city of the future". He highlighted the essential role of the Digital Twin for the city administration and the city's most critical future concerns. The term "digital twin" is increasingly familiar for several people within the sports community. For Example, it is used to analyses matches at FC Bayern. However, at the City of Munich the Digital Twin plays a central role to achieve climate neutrality. The focus is set on four main objectives and added value: precise reproduction of reality, conducting analyses, managing and communicating proactively as well as comprehension and participation.
The team had an engaging three days, during which they gained valuable insights and engaged in productive discussions. We are delighted with the Digital Twin's first successful appearance at the Festival of the Future 2024.
A big thank you to everyone involved! Special gratitude to 1E9 for the invitation and the organization of the Festival of the Future!
