Making Data Accessible

The Digital Twin at the Festival of the Future in Munich in 2026

What an event!

From July 2 to 5, the heart of Munich’s tech and innovation scene beat at the Festival of the Future—and we were right in the thick of it. We’ve had days filled with inspiration, forward-thinking ideas, and fantastic encounters.

For the very first time, we put the new Mobile Data Soil installation into live use—a first not only for the visitors but also for us. Mobile Data Soil is a further development of the Data Soil installation from the exhibition “City in the Cloud – Data on the Ground” at the TUM Architecture Museum. What was experienced there as a room-filling, immersive* installation has now been transformed into an interactive data table that showcases the digital twin and its use cases in a clear and engaging way.

The goal of the project is to make complex data tangible, vivid, and interactive. After three days of intensive practical testing, we can draw a thoroughly positive conclusion: The Mobile Data Soil attracted a lot of attention, was quickly and warmly embraced, and people were eager to try it out—because data isn’t just something to be seen; you have to be able to touch it and experience it. The Mobile Data Soil struck exactly the right chord.

The positive response

We were very pleased with the positive response from visitors. Our goal wasn’t just to showcase something, but also to listen—and the festival provided the perfect platform for that, because it attracted not only tech enthusiasts and industry experts but also interested members of the public. While the technical audience on Thursday and Friday was deeply interested in the technical details, on Saturday we had exciting conversations with many members of the public about how geodata can be used to address the key questions facing Munich’s future.

We had inspiring technical discussions, gathered valuable feedback, and gained new perspectives for further developing our ideas.

An exhibition like this isn’t a solo project – it’s pure teamwork. We owe the fact that everything went so smoothly – from the first cable connection to the last box—to our wonderful colleagues and our collaboration with the Architecture Museum at the Technical University of Munich, as well as the agency 3e8.studio, who helped us bring “Mobile Data Soil” to life.

The original, room-filling Data Soil installation will return on September 22, 2026, and will be part of the Plantreff’s next exhibition. The Mobile Data Soil will accompany us to many more LHM events in the future, where it can be tried out and experienced. Please feel free to contact us if you are organizing or supporting such an event and would like the installation to be featured there.
