Including the Digital Twin Munich as part of the Minecraft game provides a great opportunity to involve young people in participation and planning processes.
Transferring Munich's digital twin into the Minecraft computer game environment can bridge the gap between urban planning and public participation by capitalizing on the game's popularity with younger audiences.
The 3D city model is converted into the block-based format of Minecraft, creating an interactive environment. In Munich, a corresponding Minecraft model was developed using a high-precision 3D point cloud of the Olympic Stadium. To achieve this, the color information and coordinates of the 3D point cloud were converted to Minecraft blocks with matching colors. Additionally, geodata from the city was incorporated into Minecraft worlds as part of a "City of the Future" project seminar at the Technical University of Munich. A group of pupils from the Dante-Gymnasium in Munch had the opportunity to engage playfully with topics related to urban development and to implement their own ideas, such as green facades or a redesigned subway station.
