Co-creation for the Digital Twin Munich

As mentioned in the vision of the Digital Twin Munich, this digital image should support the digitalization of processes and thus create spaces for innovation. A clear focus was placed on mobility and transportation as part of the funding project. A prime example here was the co-creative development of the interactive construction sites service map involving workshops with representatives from the mobility department, the construction department of Stadtwerke München (SWM; Munich City Utilities), and the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG; Munich Transport Company).

The air pollution modeling with the city's department of climate and environmental protection was the central use case in the funding project DZ-M. Requirements and solutions were developed in extensive meetings and the approach was presented in city-wide co-creative workshops. Relevant fundamentals were identified with experts from a wide range of disciplines.

The co-creative approach to building and developing the Digital Twin Munich has proven to be highly beneficial. Within the first year of the project, eight in-depth workshops were held in various departments, as well as at Stadtwerke München (SWM; Munich City Utilities) and Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG; Munich Transport Company). Repeated sessions have helped to stabilize knowledge and raise awareness of relevant use cases throughout the city. This clear focus communication approach is an integral part of the joint Digital Twin project of the Munich city family. The long-term goal is to continue and further develop this approach to anchor the DZ-M more firmly within the city administration and to support all departments.
