Sumonity combines the robust traffic modeling of the open source software SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) with the advanced graphical and physical engine of the game engine Unity. This interface enhances the realism of traffic simulations. By adopting a pure pursuit control approach, Sumonity provides more granular control over individual vehicle behaviors, aligning both autonomous and conventional vehicle dynamics. The pure pursuit approach is a method for controlling a vehicle on its desired path by following a lookahead point in the distance in order to maintain the planned route. This interface significantly improves simulation fidelity, making it a valuable tool for Munich's city administration.
