Experience today what will be built tomorrow. With AR, future construction projects can easily and directly on site be superimposed and displayed together in today’s reality.  

It’s a long way from planning to the completion of construction projects. AR can be used to visualize various planning ideas and steps into reality. AR provides a simple and an immersive access to create a better understanding of construction development for all those involved. Therefore, making it a suitable tool for efficient public relations. This approach was successfully implemented and tested for the new district Freiham. Even before the first ground-breaking ceremony, the maximum construction volumes from the development plans could be viewed on-site in a virtual model true to scale. AR allows anyone to gain a realistic impression of the future Freiham district, even without specialized expertise.

Contribution to the digitalization of municipal transport systems

AR significantly simplifies participation processes for infrastructure projects and reduces misunderstandings regarding the planned project. By integrating the plans into the realistic environment model or the visualization of the plans embedded into on site reality, supports the comprehension and understanding for all participants as well as facilitates discussions in a targeted manner.

Contribution to air pollution control / clean air in the City of Munich

The use of interactive 3D scenes and AR applications in participation processes can be particularly effective for controversial project proposals designed to reduce motorized private transport (e.g., improving cycling infrastructure). Concerns regarding these projects, contributing to air pollution control, can therefore be overcome more quickly and effectively.

Perspective of the action

AR can be used to enrich any location within the City of Munich with planning projects. The procedure was tested for the first time in Freiham and can and will be applied to other development areas in the future.

The Digital Twin Munich uses panoramic images and inventories to support the city administration.

The construction sites map can be viewed on the Geoportal. With the help of icons, the map provides an overview of current and planned construction sites and no-stopping zones in Munich that will cause restrictions on driving, walking and parking over the next two to six weeks.
